Arkanoid NES is one of the legendary Nintendo games, now online. It is presented in 1987 by the Taito Corporation.
In the game you control a spacecraft, for
which the storyline is very scanty - "The era and time of this story is unkown. After the Mother ship Arkanoid was destroyted, a spacecraft "Vaus" scrambled away from it. But only to be trapped in space warped by someone..." There is a two players mode. When you start the game, you have three lives.
Basically you control the Arkanoid with the arrow keys. Your aim is to catch the ball every time when it hits the blocks. The ball destroys one block at every strike, and there is a chance a special item to be dropped. There are several different items of blocks and each can drop item with different bonus, each of them coming in different colour. The bonuses are very interesting. For example, your spacecraft may become wider and thus you will cover larger area - this is the dark blue bonus. You can be also equipped with two lasers - it happend when you pick the red bonus. Another bonus multiplies your ball x3 - this is the light blue bonus. You don't need to catch the three balls but just one of them. Another bonus is the light green one which makes your ball freeze at your machine right after you hit it. The pink bonus opens a special gate in the right side of the screen which enables you to pass the level without the need to destroy all the blocks - you just need to hit the door. The grey bonus gives you one life when you catch it. The last two bonuses - pink & grey, don't spawn as often as the others so try to catch them.
There are different enemies falling, which you will have to destroy. Your mission becomes harder with each level and this is what makes Arkanoid so challenging and addicting. If you want to dip in the late 80's - that would be the way.
